The Salesians of Don Bosco have been committed to the cause and welfare of the poor young especially in the area of vocational/technical training. Salesian programmes operate world-wide. The Salesians began their mission in Swaziland in 1955. In 1960, they assumed Salesian High School from the Servite Order of Priests. St. Josephkindergarten/primary/secondary school is also operated by the Salesians in Malkerns In 1974, Fr. Larry McDonnell began working with street children from the Manzini area. 

Later, he established the Manzini Institute Technical College (MITC). This was the forerunner to Manzini Youth Care (MYC) serving not only poor and marginalized youth with vocational training but also by opening five (5) residential homes for street children. The Salesians in Swaziland belong to the Salesian South Africa Province which includes South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho. The Province is engaged in many works for poor youth.

Manzini Youth Care (MYC), is a Faith-based organization / Non-governmental organization which was established in 1978 as a community service project providing various essential welfare services and the most basic needs which contribute to the wellbeing of the poor and needy young people.  For the past 44 years Manzini Youth Care (MYC), Salesian Youth Project in Swaziland has provided support and care for homeless, marginalized, destitute and vulnerable youth who would otherwise be on the streets. Founded by the Catholic Religious organization of the Salesian Society, MYC’s holistic approach provides the basic needs of food, accommodation, clothing, education, technical and vocational skills training, ethical and spiritual development.

Over the past years Manzini Youth Care established both Formal and Informal Education programs, Vocational and Technical Skills Training Centers,  Agricultural Youth Training Program and the Residential Care Homes in order to respond to the needs of the vulnerable youths in Eswatini  through the  provision of a holistic and integrated approach to education and human development based on the philosophy / pedagogy known as Preventive System coined by St John Bosco the founder of the Salesian Society.

Manzini Youth Care (MYC) work with vulnerable and marginalized children and youth at risk. Residential care homes, education and skills training are the priority areas, with focus on reintegration of the youth back into society, and or back into mainstream education, and or into jobs when they complete training. Accommodation is provided to those that are destitute and those youth that come from various Chiefdoms of Inkundla Centers from Manzini region for Agricultural Skills Training. Training varies from basic to advanced training for those youth with little or no education. Life skills are an integral part of the programs
