We celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day to shine light on the legacy of a man who changed the 20th century and helped shape the 21st. This is a moment for all to renew with the values that inspired Nelson Mandela. Absolute determination. A deep commitment to justice, human rights and fundamental freedoms. A profound belief in the equality and dignity of every woman and man. A relentless engagement for dialogue and solidarity across all lines and divisions. Nelson Mandela was a great statesman, a fierce advocate for equality, the founding father of peace in South Africa.

How its celebrated
Definition of Mandela Day to MYC
A delegation from South Africa led by the high commissioner came to Manzini Youth Care to do charity work at MYC residential homes (Enjabulweni boys home and Zakhele home) as part of the 67 minutes of Mandela Day. They were involved in different activities including painting, renovating and many more. They stayed there for a number of days. During their stay ,they raised a campaign to promote Ubuntu amongst humanity. They visited a number of places including John Bosco at Malkers amongst other places. They gave the people they visited life empowerments skills, motivational speeches, awareness and also reminded them that humanity in everything.
It is a remembrance of the first democratically elected President of South Africa and his long years of struggle for justice against apartheid.

The theme for Nelson Mandela Day for 2023 is: ‘It’s in your hands”, and is aiming to raise awareness of how food is impacted by climate change and calling on people taking part to plant trees and food in their communities.
The organisers are also aiming to plant one million trees around the world.
